Woman attacked by acid returned to Cambodia
A woman, the aunt of In Solinda who was the former International Tourism Miss among 35 countries, returned to Phnom Penh on 22 October after undergoing burn treatment in Vietnam, the Cambodia Daily reported.
Ya Soknim, 35, sustained badly acid attack by unidentified men on May 06, 2008 in Tuol Tompoung commune, Chamkar Mon district, burning on the right side of the body from her eye, shoulder, breast, hand and neck.
In Yanna, niece of Ya Soknim said that her aunt is likely to return to Vietnam for continuing treatment of acid burns to her face, The Daily reported.
The victim’s family alleged Chea Ratha, former national military police deputy Chief of staff, is behind this attack because she had love relationship with In Solinda. Chea Rath being removed from her position on May 14 is now believed to be in Bang Kok, Thailand.
Meanwhile, the municipal court issued the arrest warrant on May 14 on suspicion of intentional killing and intentional injury. And two nightclubs belonging to her were closed due to related to the investigation into the attack.
On May 12, Chea Ratha’s assistant, Ear Puthea, aged 34, was arrested and charged by the municipal court with illegal use of a weapon for the alleged role in the acid attack.
At the mean time, Interpol used to issue the “red note” for Chea Rath who is staying in Thailand in order to be finding cooperation with other countries which has extradition agreement with Cambodia to send the suspect back to Phnom Penh. But until now, the mastermind and perpetrators still remain at large.
According to the Daily, In Yanna said that “my whole family is concerned about their security, and we live under observation by police because none of the suspects have been arrested yet.”
