Touch Sunnich’s assailants living freely

The injustice in the Cambodian society is hurting the Cambodian victims attacked by gunmen, who were mostly masterminded by the rich and powerful. The perpetrators have yet been brought to court. Most of attackers, hired by the rich and powerful, always live freely but the victim’s families or relatives are living in injustice.

Touch Sunnich and her mother were shot by unknown gunmen in October 2003, while they were getting into the car after leaving the flower shop in Phnom Penh. Later, her mother, 62, was shot in the back and then died. While Touch Sunnich was shot in the her neck.

Touch Sunnich, Cambodian popular singer and university professor, who survived from the 2003 attack, is living in United States of America under support from Cambodian-American Association.

Until now, no perpetrators have been apprehended to the court. Not only her family, but also other Cambodian actresses shot by unknown gunmen are living in injustice. That is because of the culture of impunity. By the way, the masterminds are the group of the rich and the powerful and the judiciary system is under their control.

When will the perpetrators have been arrested? Will there be justice in Cambodia Society? The court system is weak; corruption is rampant and so on.
