Chea Ratha, acid attack suspect, still at large
The former senior military police official, Chea Ratha, alleged the involvement in an acid attack on seriously disfigured woman Phnom Penh on May proclaimed that she is innocence and the victim of revenge conspiracy against her. She had love relationship with former Tourist Miss In Soklynda.
The aunt of In Soklyda who was former International Tourist Miss among 35 countries, is Ya Soknim, 35, was badly attacked by the unknown men on Tuesday morning at around 13:30 AM on May in Tuol Tompoung I Commune, Chamkar Mon district, and then the attackers escaped on motorbike. The woman suffered burn to the right side of her body from her eye, shoulder, breast, hand and next. The victim was hospitalized in Vietnam.
According to the interview between Chea Ratha and the Cambodia Daily on phone, Chea Ratha said that the family of Ya Soknim has created a conspiracy of lies, which had destroyed her reputation and shuttered her two nightclub business in Phnom Penh.
Ear Puthea, 34, amongst one of four suspects was arrested and charged on May 12 by the Municipal Court with illegal use of a weapon for this alleged role in the attack. He served as an assistant to Chea Ratha when she was a deputy municipal police chief.
On June 17, Interpol issued the “red note” for Chea Rath who is on run abroad. And the red note for Chea Ratha is still valid until she is arrested. By the way, Cambodia is finding cooperation with other countries which has extradition agreement with Cambodia to send the suspect back to Phnom Penh.
Due to related to the investigation into the acid attack, the two nightclubs belonging to the former national military police deputy chief of staff, Chea Ratha, were closed.
Chea Ratha said that “my business closed down and now I owe Canadia Bank $2 million that I borrowed to run my business,” adding that “I lost everything, including my position as National Military Police deputy chief of Staff. Nowadays I stay abroad, alone in a pagoda, because the Interpol red notice means that I can’t come back to Cambodia to defend myself in a legal court case,” according to the Cambodia Daily.
